Kilton sits about two miles outside of Skinningrove. The two Iron mines were not connected (above land), however, given that the area is peppered with mines they would have undoubtedly shared the same subterranean cache and migrating/fluctuating workforce.
The mine closed in 1958. The spoil heap is a listed structure, apparently, the peak is unique. It is classified as a RIGS, a Regionally Important Geological Site.
Most of the workings and buildings have disappeared. Some traces remain, although they are in a poor state of repair. It’s fairly isolated also a little eerie.
