Skinningrove

The first edited/processed images. Needs further editing.

I have visited Skinningrove before, usually for short periods of time. However, on this occasion I was there all day, at least 5 hours or so. There is an exceptional sense of community in Skinningrove. The fishing industry, mining and steel works have all contributed to the tight-knit, perhaps insular feel to this small village. A considerable amount of Skinningrove life was documented by Chris Killip and Ian Macdonald. Not, surprisingly, many of the older locals recall Killip from the 80s. All of the people in the images below met him and, in some cases either worked with him or featured in his images. It’s a place that needs revisiting – which I will do. Visually it’s fascinating, plus the geography and social make-up would appear to be relatively unstable with questionable futures.
